New Year, New Us!

Image
It's 2023! Well.. February, almost March 2023.. but its still a new year!  Changes within our departments uniform regulations mean we can no longer have on-duty "spirit" shirts to wear.  Which is a bummer for pride ( and all the other "spirit" months).  But it is pushing us into a direction we have been contemplating for a while.  Many local departments now have LGBTQ+ liasons that are readily accessible, but some dont. Yet. Some first responders have never had departmental recognition or support.  And our goal from the start was to show the LGBTQ+ first responder community that they matter.  They are valued as their authentic selves.  We wanted to show the community at large we are a welcoming service, were they do no need to hide their authentic selves.  Our shirts and the folks wearing them have helped to show how big our community is while supporting some amazing causes. And now, to the future!  Nicola and I have discussed for years...

2022 and The Trevor Project

Image
Pride month is less than 30 days away, we have official approval for our 2022 BCoFD Pride shirts, and the printer is hard at work!! Our amazing Katy has created an amazing design again.  Her talent knows no bounds.  The shirts will be going on sale for pre order any hour now with deliveries and shipping starting later this month. Our other big news.. we are moving our fundraising efforts to The Trevor Project !  This amazing organization works to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ youth through mental health support, 24/7 counselors, text chats, political action, education, awareness, and events.  The Trevor Project is active in fighting anti-LGBTQ+ bills and campaigns - according to the Human Rights Campaign, more than 300 bills have been introduced this year alone, many targeting trans youth.  The It Gets Better Project heavily supports The Trevor Project - so we are going directly to the source.   LGBTQ+ rights are human rights.

The Month Ends

What an amazing 2021 for donations!  We have closed the shop for shirts and are adding up the donations now.. it is looking good.  We are expecting to blow 2020's donation out of the water!! We will be keeping up on our new socials, facebook so far, and have some ideas for raising awareness year round. Where should our donation go next year?  We adore the It Gets Better Project, but are open to suggestion and ideas - even support to stay the same. Thank you all for you're support this year.. we will have a donations update soon!

2021 Going Strong!

You guys are just amazing!  The donations are growing, we are on track to donate even more to the It Gets Better Project this year!! Shirts will be up to purchase for as long as we have them in stock - there are plenty left, but the numbers are dropping! There are over 40 left in all but 4xl, and over 70 in Larges. Lets get those numbers to zero!  Lets show our support for the It Gets Better Project and our very own LGBTQ+ community!

Its Offical 2021!!

Annual LGBTQ+ Pride Shirts Offical Announcement of the 2021 BCoFD Pride Month! "June is Pride Month, celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. In recognition, Fire Department members will be permitted to wear a special edition Fire Department t-shirt featuring the LBGTQ+ rainbow. These t-shirts can be worn for the month of June. This is the third year we as a department are able to support our LGBTQ+ community. All profits from the shirt sales will be donated to the It Gets Better Project in support of its mission to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) youth around the globe. This mission and the project’s central message – “it gets better” – is especially important because trying to affirm and assert your sexual orientation and/or gender identity while growing up can be a challenging and isolating process. Unfortunately, suicide in LGBTQ+ teens is approximately 23% higher than the suicide rate in the heterosexual communit...

Year Three!!

We have been approved for year three of the BCoFD Pride shirts!   The month of June is going to be full of love.  Which we all could use after the last 14+ months.   Our amazing and talented designer has done it again with a stylish and bold shirt design.  A huge order is being sent to the printer as we speak.. the shirts - and the new and improved ordering/donation system is debuting very soon. Front of the shirt: Back of the shirt: Cheers to three years of love!
